Maria is a resilient, sweet and fun-loving young girl who is living in a children’s home in Colombia. Maria was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2010. She is now in remission and has stopped treatment as of February 2016. Since being in remission, she goes to follow-up appointments every 6 months to ensure the cancer has not returned.
At school, Maria is described as social and friendly, respectful of her teachers and an enthusiastic participant both inside and outside of the classroom. Maria learns English in school and can understand instructions and some commands. She enjoys songs and stories and participating in games and activities with her classmates. Her school has observed that she has some learning delays and displays some ADHD behaviors. She has been receiving occupational therapy and speech therapy and meets with a clinical psychologist to provide her with support.
In a recent report about Maria, a caregiver reflected: “She is an angel who is here to teach us something special.”
Maria is in need of a family who can provide her with all the love, encouragement and affection she deserves. To learn more about Maria, the adoption process and next steps, please contact our Adoption Team at 212-400-8150 or email us at email@example.com.
