National Adoption Month

hero version2 33

November is National Adoption Month (NAM), a time to teach others about the adoption journey and celebrate adoption! This year, Spence-Chapin aims to share the experiences and voices of the adoption constellation with the world in order to increase understanding around adoption.

Through our #AdoptionIs campaign, the Adoption Awareness Video Project featuring well-known faces connected to adoption sharing what adoption means to them and their families, our new podcast Adoption Talk by Spence-Chapin, and our many events and webinars scheduled this month, we hope to inspire those touched by adoption and increase awareness and understanding about adoption for those not connected to it.

Now more than ever, the need for family is so important, having a permanent, loving home is so necessary, and staying connected is essential. We encourage you to share these stories from the Spence-Chapin community as well as your own during the month of November and throughout the year and to stay connected to us on FacebookInstagramTwitter, and now on TikTok!

See below to learn how to learn more and get involved!

Adoption Talk

Listen: New Podcast

Spence-Chapin’s new podcast Adoption Talk by Spence-Chapin brings you the many voices that make up the adoption constellation because each voice brings an important perspective and story about adoption. Through thoughtful discussion, interviews on critical topics, and engaging stories, Adoption Talk seeks to spread Spence-Chapin’s vision of a world where adoption is a celebrated choice, every child belongs, and all families are embraced.

New episodes will be released throughout the month of November. Listen and subscribe on Spotify here.

Watch: Video Series

According to a recent study by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, 45% of Americans say they are not familiar with adoption. This National Adoption Month, Spence-Chapin wants to change that. With the Adoption Awareness Video Project, we are bringing together the voices of well-known faces to talk about their own personal connections to adoption in self-recorded videos, helping to increase understanding about adoption by those not connected to adoption while at the same time ensuring that everyone in the adoption constellation knows that there is a supportive commnity out there for them. Follow us on Instagram at @spencechapinsvc to watch the videos throughout November!

7 WAYS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL ADOPTION MONTH

Spence-Chapin staff members say those of us with personal connections to adoption can be powerful voices in promoting adoption, breaking down myths, and bringing attention to the children here and around the world waiting for permanent families. Here are Spence-Chapin’s ideas for how to celebrate National Adoption Month!

birth-parent support: the spence-chapin way

At Spence-Chapin, we view adoption as a lifelong journey that touches the lives of many individuals: birth parents, adoptees, adoptive parents, as well as extended families. It is essential to approach every individual connected to adoption from a place of honesty, respect, and loving support. That is what we call The Spence-Chapin Way.

S-C family gets creative for children and families

Michael and Ronie Pastko have been a part of the Spence-Chapin family since their first inquiry into adoption in 2015. After becoming parents through adoption, they remain advocates of all things SC. Check out how both have used their own skills and strengths to creatively support the organization throughout the COVID-19 pandemic!

mentors & mentees

For the first time, young adoptees ages 13-18 can now experience the Spence-Chapin Teen Mentorship Program from anywhere in the United States. Through a virtual platform, they are connected to other teen adoptees and adult adoptee Mentors and engage in fun virtual activities and adoptee-centered discussions. For many, it is their first experience being in a space with only adoptees!
