Adoption Resource Center Workshops

Spence-Chapin's Adoption Resource Center (ARC) offers continuing education through a series of workshops and speakers in Manhattan, Brooklyn and suburban locations. The public is invited to all events—not only families who have adopted through Spence-Chapin. For many of the workshops listed below, you may register online. Spence-Chapin, 410 East 92nd Street.

Transracial Adoption: Differences May Not Matter to You, but They May to Your Child
Transracially adopted children often face prejudice when they are out in the world without us. This workshop will provide parents with strategies to respond to their children’s questions about race, how to deal with racism and practical tips to build a positive racial identity.

Dating & Relationships
Young adult adoptees will candidly share how being adopted may have impacted who they chose to date, who they chose as friends and how they see themselves. Open to adoptees 13 years and older due to mature subject matter.

Search and Reunion
The choice to search for and maintain a relationship with a birth family is a unique aspect of being adopted. Adult adoptees will discuss their experiences with regard to search, why they searched or did not, and what happens after one meets the birth family. Open to adoptees 13 years and older due to mature subject matter.
