Waiting Families

Our waiting families come from all walks of life and want to adopt for many different reasons. What they have in common is a deep desire to share their love with a child. These are some of the waiting families who have completed the home study process at Spence-Chapin and are ready to adopt. If you want to learn more about one of these families, please call 1-800-321-5683 or e-mail amy.silverman@spence-chapin.org.

Alex & Catherine

We are Catherine and Alex, and we first met on a ski trip in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.  Who would have thought that someone would have to travel 2,000 miles away from home in order to meet the love of their life, only to discover that back home, we lived a mere 10 miles apart.  We have been married for over 3 years and we are thankful every day that we both made that journey out west.

We are Emily and Adriano and are very excited to build our family though adoption.

Six years ago we discoverd that we would be unable to get pregnant without the help of a medical treatment called IVF. After many failed attemps to become parents this way we had to come to terms with the reality that it would never happen. It was a sad and difficult thing to face.

Leslie and Anthony

Our names are Leslie and Anthony, and we have been married for 12 years. We have been trying to start a family together and have turned to adoption to make that happen.

It seems funny to write a letter in the first-person plural, as if we were royalty or something; after all, we don’t always think alike. But on this issue we speak with one voice. We want a child very much and will do everything we can to provide him or her with a loving home.

Mario and Maria

Maria is a Professor at New York University, and she will take a semester off to care for the new baby. Mario is a freelance Spanish interpreter, and he is usually hired on a day-to-day or week-to-week basis, so he can take time off to care for the baby, as well, for as long as necessary. After we return to work, our babysitter Carmelina, will take care of the baby. Carmelina is from Guatemala and she has been with us since Sebastian was a year old. Sebastian and Sabrina adore her, and we trust her one hundred percent.

Roger & Vanessa

Our names are Vanessa and Roger, we are two loving, nurturing and generous people who are hoping and praying to adopt a child. We met at our church in downtown Brooklyn 4 years ago. We had both been waiting a long time for the right person to come along, and now we’re firm believers in the expression ‘good things come to those who wait.’  Before getting to know each other we had seen each other around our church and we had both noticed qualities in each other that we were attracted to.

Veronique & Cedric

As a couple, we have always known we wanted to create our family through adoption. Adopting Emma has confirmed that it doesn’t make a difference to us if our children are biological or adopted, we love them with all our heart.

English Español

Vincent and Daisy

When we realized we would not be able to have children of our own, we learned about open adoption. We embraced this concept because we feel that it is important for the child to have a strong sense of identity, by knowing his or her roots. We want our child to grow up to be strong and confident, secure in the knowledge that he or she will always be loved. English Español

Ziki and Fred

We met eight years ago in Brooklyn and on one of our very first dates we expressed to each other how much we wanted to raise children one day and how important it was for us to have a family. This desire was one of the things that drew us to each other and now keeps our bond strong. We have been inseparable from the beginning! It didn't take long for us to realize that we wanted to spend our lives together, and last year, we got married surrounded by our friends and family. English Español
