Volunteer

The enthusiasm and dedication of many helping hands can touch hundreds of children in need, whether living right here in New York or thousands of miles away in orphanages overseas.

There are many ways to help our efforts to provide permanent homes to children.

We have dedicated a few hours each month for those interested in volunteering in a group setting. Projects vary and time commitments are flexible.

  • Assemble mailings, information packets or other outgoing materials
  • Call donors to thank them for their gifts to the agency
  • Help wrap presents for our Holiday Program

Families are needed to provide temporary boarding care in their home for infants until they are placed with an adoptive family or returned to their birth parents. Please contact Selena Liu at 212-360-0266 or sliu@spence-chapin.org.

Thanks to our active schedules, our donations closet is growing bare. Help us restock by organizing a drive to collect new clothing, shoes, developmental toys, blankets and other supplies desperately needed by children living in orphanages overseas. Or, donate baby essentials like formula, diapers and car seats to Spence-Chapin's waiting babies who are in care while their birth parents make a permanent plan for them. Please contact Ann Hassan, Humanitarian Aid Program Manager, at 212-360-0247 or ahassan@spence-chapin.org with any questions. Donations are tax deductible, and items can be conveniently shipped directly to Spence-Chapin for immediate use. Thanks in advance for your help!

Volunteers are needed to sort and price donations, assist customers, or solicit merchandise.

Who Volunteers At
Spence-Chapin?
Amanda Gordon Amanda Gordon says, “I am very thankful for my family and wanted to show my appreciation to Spence-Chapin. Over the summer I volunteered in the Development Department, where I called Spence-Chapin families about the 100 year anniversary. It was great to meet some of the people who have been working there for years, including people who helped with my adoption, as well as my little sister's. It was a very rewarding experience and I hope to stay involved as I get older. ”
