1908 Heritage Society

Choosing to include Spence-Chapin in your estate plan represents a continuing legacy of your generosity. It is also a powerful way to ensure that the agency can continue to find families for many generations of children.

If you have you already remembered Spence-Chapin in your plans, let us know so that we may enroll you in the Spence-Chapin 1908 Heritage Society as a lifetime member.

A bequest can be a simple way to plan a gift to Spence-Chapin while providing for loved ones. Your attorney can assist you in naming Spence-Chapin as a beneficiary in your will. Charitable bequests come in many forms. You can direct that Spence-Chapin be given a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the total value of your estate, or a specific asset or item of property. Alternately, you can designate Spence-Chapin as a residuary beneficiary to receive all or a percentage of the remaining value of your estate after expenses and specific bequests to others have been paid. Please note that in all cases the agency should be identified as “Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children, a charitable institution incorporated under the laws of the State of New York, with principal address in the City of New York at 410 East 92nd Street.”

Retirement plan assets are among the best assets to use for charitable bequests because they can provide you with significant income and estate tax savings. You can include Spence-Chapin in your estate by naming the agency as a beneficiary of your retirement plan: an IRA, 401(a), 401(k), 403 (b), etc. You can name Spence-Chapin as beneficiary of your account by simply contacting your plan administrator.

Donating a previously purchased life insurance policy may help you provide for loved ones, achieve tax savings, and make a generous gift to Spence-Chapin. To contribute a fully paid policy to Spence-Chapin, you can assign ownership to the agency; you can name Spence-Chapin the beneficiary of the policy; or you can name Spence-Chapin a successor beneficiary, in the event of prior deaths of individual beneficiaries named in the policy.

By establishing a Spence-Chapin Gift Annuity, you can receive dependable quarterly payments that remain the same, year in and year out, throughout your lifetime. Your income taxes are reduced through an immediate charitable deduction and, in addition, a portion of the annual income from the gift annuity is tax-free. Gift annuities are safe because they are tied to Spence-Chapin’s assets, not to an income portfolio. Spence-Chapin must make the payment no matter what happens to the economy. Our development director can give you a confidential illustration without obligation. Please include in your request your proposed gift amount and birth date (month, day and year).

Who Supports
Spence-Chapin?
Jane Porter Jane Porter says, “I had investments in my parents’ name that eventually would come to Spence-Chapin, but was not happy with current results. I decided I’d be better off financially if I accelerated the donation to Spence-Chapin by setting up a charitable gift annuity. It was so easy to do. Now I am receiving guaranteed annual income, some of which is tax-free, for the rest of my life. And, I have the pleasure of knowing that someday my gift will enable Spence-Chapin to help future generations. It’s a win-win!”
