Humanitarian Aid

Angels support maternity homes that provide shelter and care for pregnant women, provide equipment and essential supplies for orphanages, and reimburse medical expenses of children with special needs. With past Angels’ support, an orphanage in Eastern Europe bought heating oil to keep its children warm during the long winter months; an orphanage in China purchased school uniforms so their children could attend school; and an orphanage in the Congo was able to buy food to improve the nutritional content of their children’s daily meals. Your Angel gift will make a huge difference to dozens of young lives.

Spence-Chapin’s signature humanitarian aid initiative, The Granny Program, addresses children’s basic need for human interaction and affection while growing up in institutions. Without warm hugs and kisses, games, storytelling and laughter, these children are at risk for developmental delays and attachment problems. The Granny Program brings women from the community into orphanages where they devote time and attention to the same children each day. These children thrive from the one-on-one attachment that children living in institutions usually do not experience.

Who Supports
Spence-Chapin?
B Annie Liang-Yu Silverman was adopted from China’s Hefei Children’s Institute through Spence-Chapin. In July 2008, her mother Janet Silverman, reported to us that as part of her Bat Mitzvah project, Annie requested that her friends bring developmental toys to her party for donation to the children of the Hefei orphanage. In addition, a generous cash donation was made toward aiding children in China affected by the recent earthquake and for the Granny Program.
