Health Care Providers

Workshop In-Progress At Spence-Chapin, we’re not only committed to finding families for babies, we’re working every day to improve the practice of adoption—not only in New York and New Jersey but across the country.

We provide free, on-site workshops to all professionals who work with pregnant women and families. We present on topics as diverse as options counseling, open adoption, birth parent rights, and cultural competency in adoption. The following are just a few examples of workshops we have offered in recent years.

Infant Adoption 101: A Basic Introduction Includes information about contemporary adoption practice, adoption law, and birth parent rights in a post-delivery setting. This training includes skills to assist providers in comfortably discussing adoption with patients and families.

Adoption is An Option Too! Focuses on effectively integrating adoption into options counseling. The curriculum includes information about modern adoption practice and gives participants the necessary tools to engage in a productive conversation with their clients about this reproductive choice.

(at health centers, social service organizations and government agencies)

Adoption Training Provides a broad overview of infant adoption today including common myths and misconceptions, open adoption, birth parent rights, adoption language, and useful resource and referral information.
