Welcome to the World of International Adoption

As the Director of International Adoption for Spence-Chapin, I welcome you to our agency, where we are proud of having provided quality services to families adopting internationally for more than 30 years. At Spence-Chapin, we view international adoption as a lifelong journey during which our staff and Adoption Resource Center will always be here to assist you and your family.

We are here to help you:

  • Decide whether international adoption is the
    right choice for you
  • Choose a country program
  • Prepare emotionally for the arrival of your child
  • Learn the issues that are unique to raising a
    child through adoption
  • Work through the complex legal and bureaucratic
    issues associated with international adoption
  • Coordinate and plan your trip overseas
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance in parenting
  • Share in the joys of parenthood

In our three offices — Manhattan, Hauppauge, Long Island and Summit, New Jersey — we offer a variety of programs before and after your adoption. We also work with a network of adoption agencies across the country, allowing us to place children throughout the United States. We work closely with our network agencies to ensure the high level of support and guidance that is the hallmark of adoption services at Spence-Chapin.

Our agency and team of professionals will accompany you in your adoption journey. In return, we invite you to join our family and make the most out of the wide range of supportive, educational, social and community-referral programs we offer.

If you live in the New York/New Jersey-area, we invite you to attend one of our free information meetings to learn about international adoption. If you live outside our geographic area, Spence-Chapin would be pleased to work with you through one of our network agencies. We look forward to helping you reach your goal of being parents and providing a loving family and future to a child in need.

Best wishes,
Louise Schnaier, LCSW
