WESTCHESTER

Our Lady of Fatima, 5 Strathmore Road, Scarsdale

Building Resilience, 9:30 - 10:30 am
Life for a child is full of little ups and downs as well as inescapable challenges like subjects they find difficult in school, peer pressure and perhaps bullies. Resilience one of the most important skills you can teach your child. We will show you how to instill confidence and character in your children and position them to overcome adversity.

Transracial Adoption, 10:35 - 11:35 am
Transracially adopted children often face challenges with looking “different” from the rest of their family. Learn how to help your child be proud of her cultural heritage. This workshop will provide parents with strategies to respond to your child’s questions about race, how to deal with racism, and practical tips to help your child build a positive racial identity.

Adoption + Teens = Complicated: Helping your Teen through Adolescence
Adoption adds a layer of complexity to the already confounding adolescent stages. As your adopted child becomes a teen, they may need more support and understanding from you. Learn to recognize your child’s changing needs as they explore their feelings around identity and origin, peers and their relationship with you, their parent.

This mini-conference will be led by:
Jennifer Goodbody Brenlla, LCSW. Jennifer is an expert in domestic and international adoption. Her work has centered on strengthening families and developing innovative programs for members of the adoption triad.
Chris Hudson, LMSW. Chris has over ten years of experience working with children and families as a teacher, social worker, and program developer in a variety of settings.
