Spence-Chapin Services Adoption Resource Center Workshop Directions

Spence-Chapin's Adoption Resource Center (ARC) offers continuing education through a series of workshops and speakers in Manhattan, Brooklyn and suburban locations—directions for which are listed below. The public is invited to all events — not only families who have adopted through Spence-Chapin. To reserve your place, you may register online. Driving Driections

From #9A (Henry Hudson Parkway and West Side Highway):
- From Henry Hudson Parkway and West Side Highway Exit at 96th St.
  Drive east on 96th St. through Central Park to 2nd Ave.
  Turn right on 2nd Ave. and go four blocks.
  Turn left on 92nd and go one and a half blocks to 1st and York Ave.
  Spence-Chapin is on your right at 410 E. 92nd St.
From F.D.R. Drive (Harlem River Drive):
- Exit at 96th St. Drive west on 96th St. to 2nd Ave.
  Turn left on 2nd Ave. for four blocks.
  Turn left onto 92nd St. and go one and a half blocks to 1st and York Ave.
  Spence-Chapin is on your right at 410 E. 92nd St.

Parking Information

If you drive, please allow extra time for finding a parking space before your appointment. Street parking is very limited and parking restrictions are enforced. Restrictions vary from one part of a block to another and from one side of the street to another.

By Subway: 2/3

Take the 2 or 3 to Grand Army Plaza.
Exit south side of Flatbush Avenue. Walk 1 block along Plaza Street West.
Turn right at Lincoln Place. Go 1 block, turn left on 8th Avenue and walk to Garfield Place.

By Subway: F

Take the F to 7th Avenue.
Exit at 8th Avenue (9th Street).
Walk north along 8th Avenue (the numbers descend) to Garfield Place.

By Subway: Q

Take the Q to 7th Avenue.
Walk uphill along Flatbush Avenue.
Turn right on 8th Avenue and walk to Garfield Place.

From Manhattan/North Jersey/Upstate New York

Take the Manhattan Bridge and follow Flatbush Avenue approx. 2 miles to Grand Army Plaza (traffic circle).
Stay right around the circle exiting at Prospect Park West.
Follow Prospect Park West 4 blocks to Garfield Place. Turn right.
The synagogue is at the end of the block on the right.

From Queens/Southern Long Island

Take the Southern State Parkway to the Belt Parkway.
Exit at Ocean Parkway and continue north until it becomes the Prospect Expressway.
Take the Prospect Expressway to the Eighth Avenue exit. Make a right turn onto Eighth Avenue.
Follow Eighth Avenue to Garfield Place (one block past First Street). The synagogue is on the far right corner of Eighth Avenue.

From Queens/Northern Long Island

Take the Long Island Expressway to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway West to Exit 29 (Tillary Street Manhattan Bridge).
Go to 2nd traffic light (Flatbush Avenue). Make a left turn and follow Flatbush Avenue according to directions from Manhattan.

From South and West Jersey/Staten Island

Take the Goethals Bridge or Outerbridge Crossing to the Staten Island Expressway, Route 278 East, over the Verrazzano Bridge.
Follow the “Thru Traffic” lane to the Prospect Expressway exit. Take the Prospect Expressway to the Tenth & Eleventh Avenue exit.
Make a left turn at the traffic light, Eleventh Avenue. (cross over the Prospect Expressway)
Make a left at the next traffic light, Eighteenth Street.
Follow Eighth Avenue to Garfield Place (one block past First Street). The synagogue is on the far right corner of Eighth Avenue.

From New York City

Take the Long Island Expressway East to exit 36 (Searingtown Road).
Make left and follow Searingtown Road for about 4 miles.
Make left onto Main Street.
Follow Main Street for about a half mile until you see the Landmark on the left across from the Port Washington Library.
The sign for The Landmark is hard to see at night, but there's a large children's jungle gym in front.

Take Long Island Expressway East to Exit 57 - Veterans Hwy (Rt 454).
Take service road to the SECOND traffic light - Veterans Hwy.
At Veteran's Highway turn LEFT.
Go under the LIE and proceed to the THIRD LIGHT at SPARTAN LANE.
Take a right onto Spartan Lane and then a quick right into the CROSSROADS CORPORATE CENTER.
When you turn in you will be facing our building, #1363
Go left and then around to the back of the building. The office is at the far end of the back of the building. The door is marked #40.

From Western North Shore (Northern State Pkwy)

Take Northern State East to Sunken Meadow / Sagtikos Pkwy South.
Take Sagtikos one exit to Exit S1E = LIE (495) East.
Take Long Island Expressway East to Exit 57 = Veterans Hwy (Rt 454).
Follow the Western North Shore Directions.

From Eastern North Shore (LIE between Exits 58-73)

Take Long Island Expressway West to Exit 57 = Veterans Hwy (Rt 454).
At Veteran's Highway turn RIGHT.
Proceed to the SECOND LIGHT at SPARTAN LANE.
Take a right onto Spartan Lane and then a quick right into the CROSSROADS CORPORATE CENTER.
When you turn in you will be facing our building, #1363.
Go left and then around to the back of the building. The office is at the far end of the back of the building. The door is marked #40.

From Western South Shore (Southern State Exit 13-41 - Bay Shore Road)

Take Southern State East to Exit 41A North - Sagtikos Pkwy (This is only Left Exit off the Southern State Pkwy.
Take Sagtikos Pkwy North to Exit S1E - LIE (495) East.
Take Long Island Expressway East to Exit 57 - Veterans Hwy (Rt 454).
Follow the Western North Shore directions above.

From Rockland

Take the Tappan Zee Bridge to 287 East.
Take 287 to the Hutchinson River Parkway South.
Take the Hutchinson River Parkway South to Exit 20 - Weaver Street.
At the end of the ramp turn left onto Weaver Street (Route 125). Take Weaver Street 1.5 miles and there will be a fork in the road. At the fork, bear left (you will still be on Weaver Street).
Continue straight until your fourth light and turn right at that light onto Palmer Avenue.
At your fourth light make a left onto Larchmont Avenue (There is a Baskin Robbins on the corner).
Continue straight - 3 blocks down on your left you will see a large church - (Larchmont Avenue Church) Turn left at that corner, which Forest Park Avenue - Entrance to the building is on Forest Park Avenue.

From the East, Northeast & South

Use the New Jersey Turnpike or Garden State Parkway to I-78 West (local lanes).
Take Exit 48: Route 24 West.
Proceed beyond initial Summit exits to Exit 8: Summit Avenue.
Turn left at light and follow Summit Avenue approximately 1.1 miles through a residential area to the beginning of the business district.
Turn right on DeForest Avenue - church campus is three blocks on the right at 2nd light.

From the West

Take I-78 East (local lanes) to Exit 48: Route 24 West.
Proceed beyond initial Summit exits to Exit 8: Summit Avenue.
Turn left at light and follow Summit Avenue approximately 1.1 miles through a residential area to the beginning of the business district.
Turn right on Deforest Avenue - church campus is three blocks on the right at 2nd light.

From the North & Northwest

Use I-287 South to Exit 37: Route 24 East.
Proceed to Exit 8: Summit Avenue.
Turn right at light and follow Summit Avenue approximately 1.1 miles through a residential area to the beginning of the business district.
Turn right on DeForest Avenue - church campus is three blocks on the right at 2nd light.

From the East:

Take Route 3 West to the Grove St./Montclair exit. Turn left at the end of the exit ramp onto Grove St. Take Grove St. for approximately 4 miles, passing traffic lights at Bellevue Ave., Watchung Ave., Walnut St., and Glenridge Ave.
Turn right onto Bloomfield Ave., go past four traffic lights and turn left at the fifth light onto Park St.
Go one block and turn right onto Church St.
The church is immediately past the parking lot on your right.

From the West:

Take Route 46 East to Valley Rd./Montclair exit (you will be at the point where Rt. 46 meets Rt. 3). The exit ramp will feed you into Valley Rd. going south.
Continue on Valley Rd. for approximately 3 miles.
Just after you cross Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair, Valley Rd. ends at a small fountain encircled by a traffic circle.
The church is immediately to your left. There is a parking lot immediately to the right of the church.

From the North:

TTake the Garden State Parkway South to Exit 151 (Watchung Ave.) Turn right at the end of the ramp.
Continue to the intersection of Watchung Ave. and Park St. South (just behond the railroad overpass).
Turn left and continue on Park St. for about 1 mile.
Cross Bloomfiled Ave. The first right is Church St.
The church is immediately past the parking lot on your right.

From the South

Take the Garden State Parkway North to Exit 148 (Bloomfield Ave.). Follow signs after exit toll to Bloomfield Ave., holding to the left lane.
In order to get on Bloomfield Ave. in the direction of Montclair, you will first cross Bloomfield Ave. and then make a U-turn just beyond in designated left lane.
Follow Bloomfield Ave. to Montclair town center, a distance of approximately 2 miles.
As you climb hill, look for signs for Park St. (cue: Park St. comes just after Fullerton Ave.)
Turn left at Park St.
Take the next right at Church St.
The church is immediately past the parking lot on your right.

From New York City by Bus:

Enter Port Authority closer to 41st Street, as opposed to the more uptown entrance nearer to 42nd Street. Go to DeCamp ticket window on the ticketing concourse and ask for ticket(s) for the #33 to Church Street in Montclair. You cannot board bus without prior purchase of a ticket. After purchasing tickets, go upstairs to gate 413 to board bus. You can get to gate 413 by escalator or elevator. The elevators are located closer to the entrance of the building and the escalators are in the center of the building. Ticket price is $5.95 one-way, or $11.90 for a round trip (as of March 2006).

Parking in Montclair:

Parking is permitted on the street and is free after 6:00 pm. There are six parking areas within easy walking distance of the church:
1) Next door to the church;
2) the Board of Education lot off Valley Rd. near Church St.;
3) the Valley Rd. lot at the corner of Bloomfield Ave.;
4) the Crescent Deck south of Bloomfield Ave.;
5) the parking deck between Park St., and North Fullerton Ave.; and
6) Maple Plaza, off Bloomfield Ave. between Park St. and Midland Ave.
