Domestic AdoptionStep 7FinalizationAfter the supervisory period is completed, Spence-Chapin prepares and sends documents to your attorney who, in turn, petitions the court to finalize the adoption. Following the court’s receipt of this paperwork, adoptive families attend a hearing at which the adoption is finalized and a Decree of Adoption is granted. The attorney then submits documents to the authorities of the relevant home state and the Department of Health issues a new birth certificate for the adopted child. |
